The Leisure Wellness Garden for St. Joseph’s Hospital is a dream come true. A project of the Saint John Dragon Boat Festival and St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, funds raised through the 2009 Dragon Boat Festival were dedicated to transform a portion of our inner-city property into a Wellness Garden and a Sanctuary for our patients and their families.
St. Joseph’s Hospital has the largest Geriatric Medicine inpatient program in Atlantic Canada. Sadly, for many of our patients they are limited to the confines of their rooms or hospital ward. The Wellness Garden will provide a much needed sanctuary, an environment to help patients get back to good health. Sometimes just stepping outside can make a big difference for many of our patients. A breath of fresh air can bring forth smiles, renewed hope and energy.
As our garden nears completion we are seeking the community’s assistance in providing perennials for the garden. If members have any extra perennials that are in need of a good home please consider a donation to the Wellness Garden. Help us provide a breath of fresh air and sunshine to all who call on St. Joseph’s.
Our wish list includes: Geranium , Day Lilies , Japanese Iris April Magic,Cone Flower Echinacea Purpurea,Bleeding Heart,Creeping Plox Red Wings,Aster,Shasta Daisy,Rudbeckia,Astible Astible,Hosta Haleyon,Bee Balm, Pink Beauty Potentilla,Stella Dora,Violets Royal Rob,Daffodils,
The planting day for the perennials will be Friday, June 4, 2010.
If you are able to help or donate plants please call the foundation office at 632-5595.
